Gees you’re fucking weird Gibbs - In the name of Thiago - Day 223

I’ve had that bounce about me today. Well, we all get that when we’re ready to have some time off I know, but with me it’s like a little kid that needs to go for a wee but is too excited. I told Angélica today that I was happy. She didn’t seem too impressed – it wasn’t the only time today that she wasn’t too impressed. I’ll get to that later.

She explained it like this: “I don’t mind when you’re just happy; that’s bearable, but when you start getting too excited and saying how excited you are as well, then that really gets on my tits.” Oh Christ, I thought , this isn’t likely to end well!

Snapper – the electrician – has taken a great big lump out of the ceiling today, which means  there’s dust everywhere, so getting outside is definitely the best option. And that’s where I am now, blogging outside in the sunshine next to the sweatbox that is what the summerhouse becomes when the mercury rises.

I drove to my place of work today for the first time since late March, I was about to say the 23rd March but there was one other occasion when everything went tits up with the IT at home meaning I had to go in. Touch wood, everything’s been pretty manageable since then. I had to drop off some Bentley merchandise in Sandbach to the lady that organised the Virtual Pride event. I was only in the main building for five minutes but it was still enough to get slightly titsed with the new one-way system they have in place. Just that five minutes was all that was needed for me to realise that I am much better off being at home. Even in a giant fucking dust trap!

Angélica and Elisa made themselves scarce for a bit this afternoon, as the organised chaos was unfolding in what just about still qualifies as the front room. They made a trip to B&M –one of our favourite budget stores – and bought some sweeties for the builders. The main man Mark has a very sweet tooth. What he costs me in biscuits along with some slightly iffy at times communication skills are the only criticisms I can make of him though. I tell you what, we struck gold when we got him to do the extension. He’s meticulous in what he does and incredibly considerate.

Now back to the second time that Angélica wasn’t too impressed with me today. Elisa came running out to the garden a few moments ago saying “Daddy, Mummy’s screaming and I don’t think it’s just anger this time.” Putting to one side the hilarity of how the urgency was expressed by her ladyship, I pegged it in, to find the good lady crushed under the panels pictured.

Thankfully, she was fine when Elisa and I scooped everything back up and after a couple of paracetamol, a pint of cold water and a rest, she’s back on it with some bandaging on her wrist . Not a great way for my querida to start her annual leave and all because she wanted to get hold of the mop. A woman’s work is never done..

I’m just winding this bit up as I’m going to play tennis again for a couple of hours – I’m determined to correct a couple of mental aspects of the way I’m playing. Weird really. At 44 I’m obviously never going to be much fucking cop but in my head, I can still be much better. Ever the optimist eh? That’s another trait that I’m working on thanks to Thiago. I said it at his funeral and I’ve been living that way ever since. Thanks little man. Always in my thoughts and dreams.

Tennis went ok, though I selfishly pulled the plug after an hour’s training followed by an hour’s play with Leo as my fitness has just dropped off a bit. I will be addressing that while I’m on leave. So the picture above is of Leo, who beat me 6-4 in the one set we played and the other fella is Mauricio who hails from Cali, in Colombia. So, I ended the day sandwiched between two South Americans and then came home to the very best one of them all, my gorgousinha, Angélica. Life’s not so bad you know.

Please keep the donations coming folks and thank you to Sam Hemming my yoga instructor, who has very kindly triggered some more donations tonight. Good night everyone and take very good care of yourselves.
