Gathering steam – Blog Day 23

Lots of positivity to report today, which is a fantastic way to start the week I reckon!

I will get to that but I need to ‘fess up and say that the day started with a new host of aches and pains after yesterday’s 10 mile sludge in the pissing down rain. This made me think two things. Firstly, how many different parts of my body do I have left to start feeling new pain in? Secondly, I really need to start doing something to address this situation.

So today, I have vowed that while I will continue to walk every weekend and make sure it’s of a similar length to the stages that I’ll be doing in June, I also need to be doing plenty of ‘top up’ walks in the evenings after work when I’m not playing tennis or doing yoga. I’ve started to fully appreciate that I am not a fit man and that I need to work at this really hard because I tell you what, I am so determined not to let either myself or my gorgeous little boy down. That ain’t happening.

(Martin Marshall - currently my favourite northerner!)

The main inspiration for my positivity today is a magnificent chap called Martin Marshall. Martin and I went to school together in the late 80s, early 90s. He wrote a really heartfelt message on his Facebook page today and thanks to his kind gesture, managed to start another very steady flow of donations. Gestures like this make such a difference to me and simply bring a smile to my face. And I tell you what, there is a hell of a lot to be said for that at the moment. Thank you Martin.

Fivestar took me for another lunchtime walk today. I do feel blessed to work with people like her. I’m still very up and down while I’m at work but getting out and breathing in fresh air is definitely a good thing for me to be doing. I try to make a point of doing this every day.

This weekend will be the start of me circulating what I’m doing with the media and I’ve been interviewed by a journalist today. I’m not going to say more than that at the moment because I don’t want to tempt fate but I’m certainly hopeful that coverage of this blog, which in turn links to my fundraiser will help me raise more important funds for the two hospital charities.

The other thing I’m really excited by is the opportunity to work on a podcast, which has a strong focus on men’s mental health. Again, I don’t want to put the mockers on it so I’ll keep schtum for now and fill you in when I feel a bit more confident to say a little more.

In the meantime what I can say is that every single donation is really, really important so if you can do so, please help me by giving whatever you can at:
